Choosing the Correct Tent

September1

Tents come in many different styles, shapes and  sizes, from one- person designs that fit in a rucksack, to eight berth frame tents that you can furnish like a second home. Between these two extremes you have numerous styles offering a variety of different options.

It is important to choose the correct equipment for your intention. So first of all, you need to be sure of what you require from your tent…

• How much standing room do you need? It may be essential that you can stand in the living area but not in the sleeping area, or it may be necessary to stand wherever you are inside the tent. Smaller tents do not provide for standing room, but they will be tall enough when sitting. So it’s important to always check the height specifications on your tent.

* How many people will be sleeping in the tent? Tents vary in size considerably. Consider how many people are using it and whether they require one large sleeping area or separate compartments. The tents are usually labelled ‘two person’ or ‘three person’, etc, and this is based on average-size adults. Also, consider what equipment (tables, chairs, packs, etc) will be stored alongside the sleepers. You don’t want anything (or anyone!) being left outside.
Types of tents

Dome tents- These tents are, as the name suggests, dome shaped. They are very simple to erect, using lightweight flexible poles that thread through a sleeve in the fabric crossing at the top. This type of tent, in the smaller size, is a great choice for the backpacker or motorbiker and they range in size up to family-size and beyond. The dome tent is our best selling family tent. They offer great value for money with their generous sizes, ease of erection and ease of transport. But remember that the higher the dome the more vulnerable they are in windy conditions.
Example- Woodworm Scott 2 Man Tent

Vis-A-Vis- This term applies to tents with sleeping compartments on either side of a living area. The basic tent can be either ridge or dome style. Most are made in lightweight nylon or polyester. Remember that the higher the tent the more vulnerable it is in windy conditions.

Example- Woodworm Deluxe 8 Man Tent
Finally
Camping is fun and if you choose the right tent for your intentions and the right size to accommodate your party, it will make your holiday. Most if not all of our tents will come with details on the construction of their tents and this will guide you to the correct choice. Remember to take adequate pegs, a peg remover and a mallet, and together this will ensure a trouble- free pitching. All you have to do then is relax and enjoy yourself.

Choose The Best Camping Tent In Three Easy Ways

August17

When it comes to camping, the single most important equipment you will need is the camping tent. Especially when you regularly head outdoors with your family, you need a sturdy family camping tent that will provide full comfort and safety and will last for many camping trips to come. In choosing the right tent, there are certainly key factors you will need to consider. As with any major purchase, buying a camping tent involves a process through which you will end up purchasing one that will fully meet your requirements. Now that summer is almost here, you must start planning for your next camping trip. Of course, topping the list of essential camping gear is the camping tent. Herewith, three basic selection guides to choosing the right tent.

Choose based on size

Obviously, this is the most important consideration. The main purpose of camping tents is to provide shelter for the rest of the camping trip. If it is not large enough to accommodate everybody, then it would have failed to achieve its real purpose. Basically, tent capacity is determined by the number of laid out adult-sized sleeping bags that can fit inside plus a little bit of elbow room. Thus, it is wise to add one or two more sleeping bags in the tally just to provide extra space. Fortunately, choosing based on size is a very easy task because manufacturers usually indicate or rate the capacities of the camping tents they are selling. For example, a family of three will be ensured total comfort if they stay in a four- or five-person tent. If you plan to use the tent beyond just a sleeping quarter, you can even go bigger.

Is it easy to set up and install?

Another factor that could help you choose in favor of one camping tent over another is the ease with which you can set up and install the tent. If you love backpacking, for example, you can choose single tents that have lightweight components that will allow you to easily carry these around during the day. Backpackers also tend to sacrifice room in exchange for weight. On the other hand, if you are buying a tent for children, for example, it is important that the tent be easy to assemble with parts that are also safe for children. Finally, if you are planning on a big camping trip with the rest of the family, a sturdy family camping tent that easily fits the entire family could be your top option.

Choose based on price

Of course, another important consideration is the price. Knowing your budget will allow you to choose the right camping tent without overspending. To be able to know the price ranges, it is a good idea to do a bit of online research. You can start by visiting the sites of more popular brands such as Coleman or Eureka, to name a few. To give you a preliminary idea, single tents usually sell from $80 dollars and above. On the other hand, mid-sized tents that can accommodate four to six people sell for $170 and up. Larger camping tents, meanwhile, sell for $190-500. The price will dictate the quality of the product. Nevertheless, by doing enough research, you can end up buying the right tent that suits your needs and your budget.

Vango ? A Tent For All Seasons

August11

For those who take their camping seriously, nothing beats Vango tents. They’re recommended by the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme as essential kit, but they’re equally suited to novice campers, festival goers and family camping trips. So what makes Vango tents so popular?

Firstly, Vango has four decades of experience in innovative tent design. All along, they have been at the forefront of camping research, with things like their patented TBS (tension banding system) to add superior stability and wind-resistance to even the most kite-like of tunnel tents. In addition, Vango tents are lightweight, roomy and affordable – all top scoring points for families looking for ways to have a quality holiday in the great outdoors.

Vango truly does make tents for all seasons – and for all environments. If you’re planning a festival trip, they have a stunning selection of tepee styles that are ideal for festival-goers of all ages. One is modelled on the exact Native American design, and is guaranteed to stand out on a packed campsite. Besides their stand-out visual appeal, tepees have a practical purpose too: the unique shape means there’s plenty of head height, but no wasted heat. Plus, they’re fun to decorate – a great way of keeping kids amused while you relax.

Vango uses the latest tunnel designs on their family tents – but they’ve kept a close eye on the modular market too. For example, the Vango Colorado is one of the few traditional pod designs left on the camping scene – and as popular as ever. Maybe this is because everyone gets their own sleeping area, in a zone that’s well away from noisy snorers or annoying brothers and sisters. Pod or modular-design tents have largely been usurped by tunnel tents, which are easier to erect and offer integrated bedrooms within the main enclave. While this makes the tent light and user friendly, and the bedrooms warmer, many still prefer the privacy and seclusion that modular designs offer.

Tunnel tents became a necessity as tent sizes became ever larger, in response to the growing popularity of family and group camping holidays. Many of the huge, dome-style tents were simply too big for the campsites they were on. Tunnel tents, where the bedrooms are internal rather than attached as pods, have largely solved this problem, without sacrificing living space. However, there are Vango tents that incorporate the best features of both concepts. Their Salonga tent, for example, has a tunnel construction but separated-out bedrooms, giving one or more members of the group their own space without affecting the streamlined structure.  The addition of a porch adds a further dimension – and makes the tent more resistant in a gale.

Vango has entered the 21st century of family camping with its range of technical family tents. The Nevis, for example, is modelled on the popular Tigris model and incorporates Vango’s unique tension band system, but incorporates lightweight alloy poles, a higher hydrostatic head and a larger living area.

We at Outdoor World Direct stock a full range of ultra-light Vango tents, from one-man low-slung expedition tents, to the latest Technical range which comfortably house four or more people under as little as 14 kg of poles and fabric.

Check the review about this product from Amazon:

Nathan S.,

After hours upon hours of tent searching I arrived at this one but found very few reviews associated with it. I purchased it for my wife and I to go camping for our first anniversary while I was home on leave from Iraq. The first thing that I noticed is that it is a heavy tent! No big deal if you’re driving to the camping spot and unpacking your truck right there but you probably won’t want to be backpacking this thing into your site. Dome tents are designed for more headroom but that adds to the weight factor as well. The tent, the fly, the stakes, and the poles all come in a nice gym bag type carrying case that says jeep on the side. I absolutely LOVE it because the material is strong and will protect your tent while it’s in storage. It has two handles that make it more than easy to transport. The overall weight is between 35 and 40 pounds. My former cheaper tents came in poorly constructed bags that ripped and fell apart over the years. This one’s carrying case is wonderful and will last as long as your tent!

You will find the cheapest dome tents at Amazon. They are currently on sale for 25% off through this link.
