What can I do in Seattle? Also, any camping tips for Olympic National Park?

May20

Hi there! I’m visiting a friend who lives in the Seattle metro area next week (late May). I mentioned to my friend that I’d like to visit the Olympics; she suggested the possibility of camping there. I definitely want to check out the rain forest, but I want a good glimpse of the mountains. I’d say at the most, we’d be there for a weekend. Where are the good camping spots? How about hiking ideas (advanced beginner/moderate)? Would it be better to go to the Cascades? What kind of weather can I expect while roaming through the mountains? What about Seattle weather in general?

Also, what about things to do in the city? I plan on exploring the Space Needle and Pike Place (and Viretta Park, if I can persuade my friend to go visit some park benches with graffiti!), and of course consuming coffee! I know there is a lot to see and do in Seattle, but are there any “must sees” while there?

Thanks so much!

What are some good non-state park camping areas in Texas?

May12

A group of friends and I are planning on going camping for spring break in Texas, but we just found out that drinking is illegal in state parks, so I am looking for a good non-state park to camp in.

What campsite is best at Yosemite National Park?

March27

My family and I are planning a week long camping trip in July/August, but we are not quite sure what site is best? Or what places we should sees. We would also like to do some fishing. We are all in our 20s to 30s and some of us have young children(4-7) children. This will be our first time at Yosemite.

Council Grounds State Park – Merrill, Wisconsin

March5

This 508 acre park along the Wisconsin River in north-central Wisconsin has been used by humans for centuries. Some park artifacts date back to around 600 AD. Native American Chippewas met for celebrations here beginning around 1600 AD. In the late 19th century loggers met here to sort the rafted lumber for downstream mills. The park site is beautifully situated with the Lake Alexander flowage on it’s north and the Wisconsin River on it’s west side. Nature trails take you past the park’s impressive stands of White Pine. The 55 family campsites with showers are in a heavily wooded area near the river and lake. This video includes the group campground. Music downloaded from Garageband.com. Slideshow by John Wanserski. Governor Dodge State Park, Twin Valley Campground Sites 200-293

March2

Governor Dodge State Park is Wisconsin’s second largest park with an area of 5270 acres. It is named after Henry Dodge, the first Territorial Governor. The glaciers of the last Ice Age bypassed this area and left intact valleys sculpted out of 450 million year old sandstone. Human occupation of the area dates back over 8000 years. There are two man-made lakes in the park, Cox Hollow and Twin Valley, that are encircled with miles of trails for hiking, biking, skiing, and horseback riding. The Military Ridge State Trail connects to Blue Mounds State Park and continues all the way to Madison. There are 269 family campsites, eight group campsites, 11 for horse campers and six that require a hike in the back country. Camping reservations are recommended for this very popular park in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. Nearby is the restored Cornish lead mining community of Pendarvis and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin. Music by Maury Smith. Slide show and photographs copyright 2008, Creative Juice LLC. Mirror Lake State Park, Bluewater Bay Campground

February24

Mirror Lake was formed by the old mill dam on Dell Creek near Lake Delton in 1860. Dell Creek is within the non-glaciated, or what is known as the driftless area of Wisconsin. Sandstone was formed from river deposits into shallow seas about 500000000 years ago, during the Late Cambrian geologic period. The rock outcroppings of Mirror Lake’s gorges are formed from weathered sandstone. Over the last 10000 years Dell Creek cut gorges into the thick, soft sandstone rock. This 2050 acre park lies within three miles of Wisconsin Dells and draws more than 200000 visitors a year. The park has many miles of trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and nature viewing. The no-wake lake is ideal for canoeing and kayaking. There are 151 family campsites in three campgrounds, seven walk-in group sites for tents only, an accessible cabin for people with disabilities and a unique rental cottage designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This video includes the Bluewater Bay campground. Electronic music mix by Evan Wanserski; track 3 by Malignant Choir. Slideshow and photographs copyright 2008, Creative Juice LLC.
