Joys Camp Samburu Kenya Joys Camp Shaba National Reserve

June23

Joys Tented Camp Samburu is a luxury tourist lodge located in Shaba National Reserve, Kenya and is the former area of Joy Adamson leopard Camp. At this Camp there lies a museum, a tribute are dedicated to Joy’s memory. Joy’s Camp Shaba National Reserve is a stunning tented safari camp in northern Kenya’s Shaba National Reserve, at the eastern corner of the Samburu, which is 314 kms from Nairobi.

Shaba National Reserve is a semi desert game reserve with a rugged hilly terrain, with great rocky kopjes (small hills) and lots of springs supporting the abundant wildlife. The landscape is similar to nearby Samburu Game Reserve with riverine forests, acacias and doum palms. Shaba National Reserve is enriched with extraordinary wildlife. Game drives will incorporate varied wildlife including gravy zebra, the Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, lesser kudu, leopards, plenty of lion and herds of elephants. Shaba National Reserve was made famous for its association with the world famous conservationists Joy and George Adamson and the film “Born Free”.

Joy’s Camp is the perfect choice for discerning guests interested in a glimpse of Kenya history, as well as those looking for an authentic wildlife experience combined with the comfort of a luxury-tented camp. Each sumptuous tent is uniquely decorated with Boran/Somali cloth design, handmade glass and the vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes creating a chic, sophisticated and stylish tented camp. Each tent in Joy’s Camp has its own private verandah, ideal for private game viewing as well as relaxing, reading and soaking up the truly wild environs offered by Shaba.

The eastern corner of the Samburu eco-system, Shaba is a secluded idyll; an arid landscape dotted with lush springs and Rocky River gorges. Joy’s Camp is a tribute to Joy Adamson, built in an elegant oasis in the arid lands on the site of her tented home. The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant, leopard and lion jostle for watering rights with herds of buffalo and the rare desert species of Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. Many bird species can also be spotted making it a great camp for budding ornithologists.

Joys Camp is set in a spectacular area and is operated by Cheli & Peacock Camps & Lodges who operate around 15 luxury camps in Africa. Joy’s Camp is a luxury camp, no doubt about it, the safari tour vehicles are top notch, the food in particular the salads at lunch time are fantastic and the swimming pool is a real bonus, particularly if you are traveling with Children. The entire experience is first class from the welcome by the staff to the farewell at the end of the safari.

The tents are ultra luxurious and are equipped with everything you could wish for. The staff could not do enough for you; the lodge management checks on you after each game drive to find out whether you had seen animals and to enquire as to whether you would like to do something different for the next day. The attention to detail is spot on. They even arrange for you to have a full cooked picnic breakfast by the river as a surprise, transporting the kitchen and staff to the river’s edge.

You will be incredibly well looked after for your entire stay which. There are plenty of wildlife about and being built beside a spring, the waterhole is always populated with animals. The guides are very knowledgeable and will cheerfully answer any questions you have. Lara and Jamie who manage the camp are so friendly, very laid back yet attentive and constantly checking if everything is alright without being obtrusive. Other activities at Joy’s Camp include bush breakfasts, sundowners and cultural visits. Alternatively, guests can chose to relax around the camp’s swimming pool. The cuisine at Joy’s Camp is based on traditional Northern Italian food all prepared from the Cheli family cook book.

What can I do in Seattle? Also, any camping tips for Olympic National Park?

May20

Hi there! I’m visiting a friend who lives in the Seattle metro area next week (late May). I mentioned to my friend that I’d like to visit the Olympics; she suggested the possibility of camping there. I definitely want to check out the rain forest, but I want a good glimpse of the mountains. I’d say at the most, we’d be there for a weekend. Where are the good camping spots? How about hiking ideas (advanced beginner/moderate)? Would it be better to go to the Cascades? What kind of weather can I expect while roaming through the mountains? What about Seattle weather in general?

Also, what about things to do in the city? I plan on exploring the Space Needle and Pike Place (and Viretta Park, if I can persuade my friend to go visit some park benches with graffiti!), and of course consuming coffee! I know there is a lot to see and do in Seattle, but are there any “must sees” while there?

Thanks so much!

How much does it cost to take a tent and camp at Yosemite National Park?

February15

My family is wanting to plan our first trip to Yosemite National Park. We are wanting to take a tent and do the whole natural camping thing. How much does it cost do this? I know you can rent lodges but we want to bring our own tent. Where can we stay if we bring our tent? We want to be near the water. So if you have any answers or suggestions, I would gladly appreciate them. Thanks!

What is the best family campground in Sequoia National Park?

January20

There are so many campgrounds, here is what I am looking for since we will be traveling with little kids: Not too far off the road, not too hot in the middle of summer, easy hiking trails, maybe some swimming (rivers or lakes???), ranger led programs for kids, biking, fishing, other fun activities???

FREE RV Camping Boondocking In Northern Arizona

December17
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/IKSVBhx7nNE/2.jpg

As a former bellman for Fred Harvey Lodges on the South Rim, of the Grand Canyon National Park, I made this DVD especially for those wanting to get away from the camera clicking masses that visit the canyon every year. This DVD takes you truely “off the beaten path” to places only the most seasoned Grand Canyon visitors know about. Some of these locations are more common to Mule Deer and Pink Canyon Rattlers than weekend warriors!

There is plenty of rare footage with pictures taken while logging up to 500 canyoneering miles under the rim. From hiking Comanche Point and Cape Solitude to the former mines near Horseshoe Mesa, from the South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch, from Cheyava Falls to Ribbon Falls, from the Bright Angel to an intense scramble along a faint route intended ONLY for experienced hikers out to the top of the famous Battleship, from the rugged Hermit Trail to the remote South Bass Royal Arch Loop, from the forested expanse of Crazy Jug Vista on the North Rim down to the Esplanade and awe inspiring power of Thunder River, from the East Rim to the West Rim, from the Grandview Lookout tower to famous Hopi Point, from tenting lonley Jumpup Point to a spectacular FREE camping spot at the edge of the canyon 3000 feet above the mighty Colorado River at Toroweap Point!

That’s not all, these disks even include the only “Rim to River” backroad adventure along Diamond Creek near Peach Springs. Just imagine that you can drive to the bottom of the Grand Canyon where only river runners pull out at! “Did I fail to mention the waterfalls of Havasupai or even the dusty never ending backroads leading out to the middle of nowhere at Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument region of the park?” Yes, Mount Trumbull, Kelly and Timp points, we have “Been there Done That!” taken the pictures and brought them back for you to enjoy!

COMING SOON! These two DVD’s are due out and for sale in Fall 2009.
