Choosing Family Camping Tents – Great Tips For First Time Campers

June5

For many adults, family camping trips are one of the most memorable parts of their childhood.
Whether the camping happened in a backyard or involved more meticulous planning and
implementation process, camping holds a soft spot in the hearts of many people. So when children
eventually grow up and have their own families and kids, they wish to continue this exciting
tradition. To make this wish a reality, it is important that you have the most essential piece of gear,
your camping tent. Through the years, tents have developed to become your second home away
from home in terms of comfort.

Camping tents for your family come in a varied array of styles, colors and sizes. There’s one to be found for every family depending on their needs. Technology advancements have made camping tents better and better with the most long-lasting and weatherproof materials. Sometimes you may be caught in a sudden burst of bad weather but these tents can help make the experience not the worst in your life. Some criteria need to be established in choosing the best tent for your family.

Before anything else, find a tent on the market that is of the best quality. Upon finding one check message bulletins at websites designed to give consumer opinions, and look for truthful reactions on the product. Go to your sporting goods store and check up close the tent itself. Check the zippers, fastenings and the way it is put up. This is your chance too to check the quality of materials used as well as the poles and attachments. A good camping family camping tent is durable and can withstand even severe weather conditions.

Upon finding several possible choices, choose one that fits your family’s needs and preferences. It could be a large one-room design or one with a tunnel between two “rooms” for your children to enjoy. Size and space should be considered. Several models are compact and can fit in smaller vehicles.

Make your camping trip an unforgettable one for your family. Come prepared with a quality tent.

How To Buy Your First Camping Tent

May5

To begin, I was never into the concept of camping.  The idea of sleeping in a tent on the cold ground didn’t appeal to me.  However, some of my friends would go camping every year and swear they loved it.  So last year I decided to take the plunge and I went camping with some of my friends.  I have to admit, I was hooked after the first night.  I think the key was using the correct equipment.  After my first camping trip, I decided to make the investment and buy a tent, sleeping bag and all of the other amenities.  To save you some time, I have written down some tips that helped me buy my first camping tent.

The first step begins with determining the size tent you will need.   When you start shopping for your tent you will see that tents are categorized by their capacity.  For example, you will see two-person, three-person or four-person tents.   One footnote is that you will want to buy a tent that is a little bit larger than your need.  For example, if you are only looking for a two-person tent, you might want to consider a three-person or four-person tent.   A two person tent will fit a maximum of two people and not much else.  If you get a three-person or four-person tent you will have room for some of your gear as well.  Now you might say why don’t I get a six person tent and have plenty of room?  The only problem here is the extra weight that comes with a larger tent.  Remember, you have to pack up and carry your tent.  If you are like me, I wanted to pack as light as possible so I chose a tent that was just slightly bigger than my need.

After you have chosen the size of your tent, then you have to choose the tent that fits the environment where you will be camping.  A three season tent will make the most sense for you if you are camping in the spring or summer.  A four season tent is designed for extreme cold or harsher environments.

One of the most important parts of tent shopping is choosing the materials used for the tent construction.  You will want a thicker or higher quality denier fabric if you want the tent to last for the long haul.  However, tents will become more expensive when you use a higher quality fabric.  You need to ask yourself how often you will be camping and using your tent. If you are using the tent for limited use you might be able to get away with a cheaper tent.
Lastly, make sure you pick up a footprint with your new tent.  The footprint will be placed directly under your new tent and it will help protect the base of your tent from unnecessary wear and tear.

For my final point, after you buy your first camping tent, I would take the time and put it together at home. This will give you an idea on how the tent is constructed and you can make sure you have all the parts.  You don’t want to arrive at your campsite after a long hike and realize you are missing a part.

I hope this article can help you on your first tent purchase.   Again, just take your time and do the research before you buy.  See you around the campsite!

Going camping for the first time, need tips…?

February23

My boyfriend and I are going camping this weekend with some friends for 2 nights. Neither of us have ever been camping before so I was hoping we could get some camping tips!

We know to pack light, that it’s all about keeping it simple.
We know that there will be access to bathrooms, showers, and grills.
We know the temperature will probably be in the 70s during the day and the 50s at night.
We know to bring our tent, air mattress, and sleeping bags.

…That’s about all we know haha.

What is best to wear (clothes, shoes, etc.)? We will be doing some light hiking along a stream and our feet will probably get wet.

What kind of food should we bring? How do we store it? (If we bring hotdogs and burger in a cooler with ice, will the ice last 2 whole days?) How do we prepare it?

Is there anything we really MUST bring?

Is there anything we really SHOULD NOT bring? (aka anything that will attract animals that will eat us…?)

THANKS A LOT!!
“TheCuriousCooker”, you must be confused. This is the section where you answer questions, not ask them. But, I’ll humor you. We’re in college. Camping is not big where we’re from, but it’s something we’ve always wanted to do.
