Im so confused. Does a body lift make the tires stick out wider? what is better a suspension lift or body lift. I like the 33×12.5×15 tires. What size rims do I need. How do you make the tires stick out slightly on the jeep, does this come from kits or from simply increasing tire size. I am looking for aesthetics purely, not worried about actual offroad usage, Im a beginner at this jeep thing so be gentle, please explain like im a 4 year old. Thanks in advance……..

the wheels sticking out is fromthe backspacing on the rim. you can also use spacers to push themout.
body lifts give you tire clearance but not flex, that comes from a suspension lift.
try quadratec.com, they have a lift and tire advisor.
ok simple it will be,
1. 33×12.5×15 this means the tire is 33″ tall and 12.5″ wide and the rim is a 15″ tall rim and 8″-9″ wide on the rim.
2. this means the tire will stick out about 3″ more than your stock fender flares.
3. If you want your tires to stay under the fenders then you need to buy a new set of 6″ fender flares, usually runs $300 – $600 depending on what you want.
4. OR find a 33x9x15…..GOOD LUCK
5. Back spacing is a issue if you want the tires to stick out more! or you can increase the tire width to 33×14.5x 15 which the rim would be 15″ tall and 10″ wide.
6. so if it is for looks and not performace and not worried about gas then go with a 33×14.5×15 with an agressive tread design.
7. if you want ok gas mileage and no humming on the roads go with BFG’s All Terain 33×12.5×15
So i hope this helps you and kind of breaks it down for you too. anything eles just ask or email me (dandc4kids@yahoo.com)
depending on the year of your jeep i do not suggest a 3 inch body lift because you’ll get a big gap that is very noticeable if you have a YJ with leaf springs in the front and back the lest expensive way is to get an ADD A LEAF which you can find at JCWHITNEY it will give you about 2 inches enough for 31″ x 10.5 tires they will stick out pass your fender about an inch you don’t want to stick out too far or your wont pass inspection if you want 33″ x12.5 you will need fender flares and likely have to get a 4″ suspension lift $$$$$
A body lift is simply a spacer between the body of your jeep (the color / painted section), and the frame (the black portion). The body of the jeep will be raised, but the frame, axles, and wheels will stay where they are. You will be able to put larger tires on your jeep, but you won’t be able to go over any larger rocks, because the axles / engine, etc won’t be up as high. Body lifts are easy to spot, and don’t look as good as a suspension lift. They jeep ends up looking odd, as the body looks seperated from the frame by plastic blocks.

A better solution to making your jeep look better is to get a suspension lift – namley a coil spacer lift. This lift (less than $300) will raise the axles and frame of the jeep up, giving you a much better look for almost the same price.

As to making the tires stick out, if you buy larger tires, they will stick out more. If you still don’t think they stick out enough, you can put spacers on the wheels too. Be careful though, wheels out farther than your fenders is illegal in some states.
