It’s on a stock 98 Jeep Wrangler. The tire size is 31X10.50R15 which in metric is 267/76-R15. Is this a close enough size to not cause any trouble?
I meant 265/ *75* /R-15

265 is centimeters across the tread. 65% of that is its height.
So, the 31′s will be slightly taller.
This should work fine.
That size is so close that it is almost impossible to measure on all dimensions. Dia . / width . That is the best swap you could make one way or the other
From an online tire calculator:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
It will be taller and might not handle as well. You can see that the 75 series tire is 52mm or just over 2 inches taller and will throw your speedometer off by 7.3% (it will read slower than what you are actually doing so be careful). With it being 2 inches taller, as long as it doesn’t rub on your fender especially when you turn, it will okay, but not ideal.

Yes. Exactly the same. 75 to 76 is no sig. difference.
The closest P-Metric size to your OEM floatation that you might actually be able to find somewhere is the rare P265/70R15 110S. But at least there are some decent choices on the market there. A P265/75R15 112S – also quite rare – would also work. I have worked in the tire industry for 8 years and am not aware of any tire made in P265/65R15, a size that does not even appear in the Rubber Manufacturers Association Tire Load and Inflation Tables.
The question is why? The floatation size 31×10.50R15 LT 109S is sooooooo common, with so many hundreds of different models of tire to chose from in eveyr price rane and avaialbe IN STOCK at any respectible tire store (the others will certainly be special order) that there is no logical reason to switch.
