Ok, so I own a 2006 Wrangler X model. Just about everything is stock, tire and clearance wise. Someday I would love to have 33″ tires, and somewhere in the ball-park of a 1-2″ lift. Now, I dont know a THING about any of this stuff, so I would appriciate some advice on what to do. I drive about 90% street/highway, and the other 10% would fall into the occasional snow storm, or minor easy trails. I dont plan on beating up my Jeep much, because I want it to last me as long as it can. But I do want it to be tough. With this being said, what would be my best option lift wise? Body or suspension? What kind? Company? What kind of tires would suite me best? Would spacers be necessary?
I know suspension lifts are more expensive, but if getting one would be the best option in the long run then so be it.
I know its my choice on what I want to do, but im only asking for advice to steer me in the right direction.
And please dont abbrieviate anything, because I wont know what you’re talking about.
Thank you so much for your help!
-Bobby
With any of these things added (33″ tires, 1-2″ lift) will there be any additional costs that will need to be made in the future?
It would be wise to regear to at least a 4.10 running gear first. I would also stay away from anything over a 1.5 ” body lift.
33′s will indeed take a LOT off the low end of your engine performance and re-gearing the axles will set you back a pretty penny and 1 to 2″ isn’t enough to run them anyway – you need more like 4.
A mild lift and 31′s or 32′s will look nice, get you through what you describe and save you money. I ran an Old Man Emu lift on my jeep for years with 31′s and it was great. Check out DPGOffroad, and look at the TJ/LJ lifts – Ultimate TJ/LJ Wrangler Kit. Call Dirk and ask for a price on that but without the Motor Mount and Body Lift. That should clear 31′s and probably 32′s without much trouble, but the smaller the tire the better your low end power will be.
A MT tire will do better in snow than an AT , but a slightly more aggressive AT tire like the Goodyear Duratrac might suit your needs, its kinda like an All Terrain on steroids, but not quite an MT. The best price I have found on them is at 4WheelParts believe it or not, but you can shop around. No spacers will be needed if you use a 31 x 10.50 on stock wheels, but you may have to adjust the steering stops. 33′s will require a 15×8 wheel with 4″ or so of backspacing or spacers if you plan on using stock wheels.
Here are a few pics to let you know what it might look like.
This is a TJ with 2.5 OME lift and 31′s, AT (All Terrain) tires and what look like aftermarket steel wheels
