Kent Campsites: Two Sites You Should Look At

September1

Camping is one of the best exercises that a person can carry out, either with family, friends or loved ones. It is the perfect way to gel with nature as well as to spend some constructive and positive time with people who matter to you. There are several camping sites all over the world, and rarely will you be in a place where there are no camping sites available. If you are in Kent and looking for camping site, you are in luck. The picturesque locales of Kent offer many a camping locations to people. These camping sites cater to all kinds of requirements and finances. Here are two of the most famous Kent Campsites: Yew Tree Park The Yew Tree Park is located around four miles to the south of Canterbury. This is one of the most historic places in the whole of East Kent, and offers a touring opportunity to tourists that cater to every need, right from camping, sightseeing, nature gazing as well as outdoor activities. The Yew Tree Park has all the amenities that one might expect from a modern camping site, beginning from the heated outdoor pool and continuing with shower blocks, dry cleaning and laundry areas, dishwashing area, a WiFi area and a freeze facility. The freezer facility comes handy because of the simple reason that a person goes camping during the summer vacations, and some cool beverage is a welcome respite from the sizzling heat. Apart from the modern amenities and appliances, Yew Tree Park also has quaint amenities like static caravans, a Timber Lodge and apartments. The Tree Park also has apartments near their pools, which are centrally heated and double glazed. All apartments and caravans are fitted with colour televisions. The Yew Tree Park has something for everyone – for people who would rather laze indoors and take a dip in the pool, they have the pools, and for people who would like to take a stroll, it offers a long enough garden path that should keep one busy for quite a while. The lanes especially beckon cyclists and there are other added attractions like golf courses, horse riding and fishing quite nearby. Then again, for the people who are looking for a watering hole, there are some pubs and restaurants that offer drinks and a quick snack quite readily. Once that is done, one then needs to take a left at the scond crossroad into the ‘Steeds Lane’. The Broadhembury offers two separate venues, one for adults only and one for adults with kids. This allows people to have a more satisfactory holiday if they so wish. Broadhembury is perfect for long or short stays, and one can either rent their caravans or bring their own caravan and tents. Italy Camping, Italy Campsites

August26

The enchanting Italian island of Sardina is an idyllic destination to enjoy a taste of authentic Italy. Camping holidays are a popular way to explore the island – especially amongst families – and the well-equipped and conveniently located campsites on Sardinia make them an ideal option.

As the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia has a lot to offer both culturally and geographically. The wonderful beaches that make up its coastline are a major draw for tourists from all over the world, and the picturesque mountains of the interior are dotted with rural farms and ancient towns just waiting to be discovered. The island is very easy to get around and, with some of the most picturesque scenery in Italy, a camping holiday will allow you the freedom to explore the many delights of Sardinia at your own pace.

Cuisine

Food plays an important part in Italian culture and in Sardinia the diverse influences of nearby Spain and Corsica lean towards a distinctly Catalan flavour. Seafood is of course a staple and is served up in a delicious variety of ways. Fresh herbs also play an important part, as do the locally grown vegetables and wild game sourced from the mountainous interior.

Every region has its own local market, and it is a wonderful experience to rise early from your campsite and join the locals as they stock up on their weekly groceries. You can purchase meats, cheese and bread of every variety – perfect for a picnic or with a glass of wine back at your campsite. Italy is well-known for working farms which open their doors to paying guests and visitors. In the countryside of Sardinia you can find many of these wonderfully hospitable places, and you will treated a spectacular feast using only fresh meat and produce from the farm. Some of the delicacies you may try include Pane Carasatu – paper thin bread baked with olive oil and rosemary; Porcheddu – local suckling pig roasted with garlic and herbs; or potatoes with Sardo ham and specialty pecorino cheese. Of course the local wines make a wonderful complement to the meal. But be warned – the Sardinians love to feed their guests and you will leave with your stomach groaning!

Beaches

The warm wash of the Mediterranean encloses the coast of Sardinia in a gentle waveless embrace. Shallow waters and ideal year-round swimming conditions make the island one of the most family-friendly holiday destinations in Italy. Camping near the beach provides the perfect blend of family entertainment and outdoor adventure.

A vibrant and abundant marine life attracts keen divers and snorkelers and there are literally hundreds of miles of deserted beaches to explore. The rocky coastline is punctuated with many caves and grottoes containing fascinating stalactites and stalagmites, and you can take a guided tour through some of the larger ones for an eerie underground adventure. Sailing also plays a large part in a holiday to Sardinia – it is a magical experience to sail the calm waters of the Mediterranean between Sardinia and Corsica. You can stop in sheltered anchorages and swim right in to the caves at the foot of sheer cliffs.

Rural Sardinia

According to Sardinian legend, to create the island, God took a little of every perfect landscape on Earth and spread it across the surface. It’s an easy legend to believe as you drive down virtually deserted country roads, through mountainous countryside which seems to stretch further than the horizon, and past plateaus of magnificent oak forests.

The patchwork of the countryside is dotted with vineyards and wild Myrtle bushes and there are many Roman ruins and prehistoric fortresses to visit along the way. Get back to nature on a walk or horse ride along the network of hiking trails throughout Sardinia, and encounter some of the island’s wildlife such as Sardinian deer, wildcats, wild pigs, falcons and kites.

For a true taste of Italy, camping in Sardinia will show you beautiful landscapes, delicious cuisine and the best beaches – but the true gift you will enjoy on your holiday is the wonderfully warm hospitality of the Sardinian people.

How To Have Summer Fun And How To Save Money On The Family Vacation

August20

Having an RV, lets the family visit and experience the countryside in there own backyard or if they more adventure and the time, travelling around the country.

With an RV a whole week can be spent at the beach for just what one night in a hotel would cost a family. And with packing their own food, they can have good healthy meals, that one has trouble finding in restaurants or fast food chains. The cooking can be done either inside, when weather isn’t cooperating or outside when the weather is bright and sunny. The children enjoy cooking over the fire or even barbequing their favourite hotdogs or hamburgers.

Having your own home away from home can bring a family closer. Working together to setup the campsite and cooking meals together is a great way for a family to become closer. The living outdoors during the days, swimming, playing or just laying around the campsite is good for the body, mind and soul. With an RV families can visit the National Parks and connected with nature.

RV’s are great because you have your own bed to sleep in every night along with your bathroom facilities. RV’s provide more comfort, than sleeping in a tent. If the weather isn’t cooperating with your day, the family has a warm, dry place to go to watch TV, or play games or just relax and read a good book.

Having an RV, the family becomes very flexible. You can stay or go onto the next place that interests the family. There are always numerous places that offer the type of camping your family is looking for. If they want swimming, either in a pool or a lake. There is always a campground near. If they want hiking and communing more with nature, there are plentiful campgrounds situated around these areas to offer what the family is seeking,

If you want you can join an RV travel club. These clubs give the RV’er a discount on campsites around the country, Canada and the United States included.. This is especially a great way for those that are Retired and are living on a fixed income to travel the country.

The family vacation doesn’t need to be a great financial outlay for the average family. Having an access to an RV can save the family a fair bit of cash over the years. Along with bringing the family closer together.

How To Choose The Best Campsite

August14

Are you interested in going on a camping adventure?  If you are, have you already decide where you would like to go camping?  If you have yet to choose a campground park to camp at, you may want to think about doing so soon. In the summer months, camping is a popular activity; therefore, you will want to make sure that you are able to get a camping reservation at the campground park of your choice.

Another one of the many reasons why you may want to think about making your camping reservations in advance is because many campground parks allow their guests to handpick which camping spots they want.  Of course, not all campground parks allow you to do this, but you will find that a large number of them do.  In terms of getting a good camping spot or a campsite, you will find that the earlier you make your reservations, the more campsites you have to choose from.

Speaking of choosing a camping spot, which is also commonly referred to as a campsite, you may be wondering what you should look for in one.  In all honesty, the “perfect,” campsite is likely to vary from person to person.  It actually depends on your wants and needs, as well as the wants and needs of those in your camping group. Although there may be some variations of what you are looking for, you may want to take some of the factors mentioned below into consideration, when choosing the perfect campsite.

One of the first things that you will want to do is review who you are going camping with.  If you are going camping with children, namely small children, you may want to think about making sure that your camping site is a good distance away from any bodies of water or any dangerous hiking trails.  You will also find that many campground parks have onsite playgrounds and such. If you are camping with children, it may be a good idea to try and get a camping spot that is located near a playground or other locations that are designed for children.

In addition to the safety of those that you will be camping with, preferences are also something that should be taken into consideration, when choosing a camping spot or a campsite.  If you are a water lover and would regularly like to spend your time boating, fishing or swimming, you may want to think about getting a camping spot that is close to the water. On the other hand, if you would prefer to spend your time hiking, you may want to try and get a camping spot that is located near the campground’s hiking trail, and so forth.

Size is also another factor that you may want to take into consideration, when choosing a campsite.  When reviewing campgrounds, you will find that different campground parks have different sizes campsites.  Often times, the larger campsites are designed for those with multiple tents or with motor homes. Before agreeing to rent a particular camping site, you will want to make sure that the site in question is large enough for all of your camping group members.  This is important as not having enough space could put a damper on your next camping adventure.

The above mentioned factors are just a few of the many factors that you may want to take into consideration, when choosing a camping spot for your next camping adventure.  As a reminder, not all campground parks allow you to choose your owing camping sites, but a large number of them do.

Finding the Perfect Campsite

August8

Going camping and connecting with the great outdoors is a fun family activity. But to get the most of your camping experience you need to find the perfect camping spot.  But exactly how do you find the best place to spend your camping time? It just takes a little research and know how!

National and State Parks
There are beautiful natural resources at our disposal that are maintained and preserved by federal and state governments.  These could be a large national park like Yellowstone or Yosemite, or small recreation areas like lakes and reservoirs.  The national parks have campgrounds that you can reserve a campsite at simply by visiting the recreation.gov website.

On the reservation website you can search by type of camping you wish to do, tent, camper, cabin, etc. You can also search for campsites available by state or region. Specify the dates you want and the site will generate a list of all the available campsites in the area. You can then make your reservation online and you are good to go. It doesn’t get better than that!

For reserving campsites in state parks, check with the official state website of the state you want to visit. Generally they will have a link to reservation or at the very least, a phone number you can call to make reservations.

Privately Owned Campgrounds
There are many campgrounds that are privately owned and operated. Many are run by well known camping companies like KOA or CamperWorld.  These campgrounds cater to travelers, campers, and people who want to stay long term. Most are connected or close to attractions like amusement and water parks or lakes and other recreation areas.  Most have laundry facilities, playground, and possibly a pool.  Some of the campsites owned by big companies require a membership to stay at their sites, so make sure you know before you book to avoid extra fees.

Know What You Want
If you are not a rough it camper, make sure the campground you choose has the features you want. Most commonly people want running water and bathroom facilities. Nothing makes a weekend camper more miserable than having to dig a latrine or pack in water if they aren’t used to that kind of camping. So do your homework and make sure you know the amenities you will have at the campground before you make a reservation.

Reserve Early
Many national and state park campgrounds fill up quickly. In fact, most of the camp sites start taking reservations in January so plan your trip well in advance. Generally if you reserve early you will get your pick of campsites so you can have the quiet spot by the lake instead of next to the busy highway.

Keep in mind that not all campsites or campground will have hookups for RV’s or even be accessible for large campers and trailers. This is another important thing to ask when you make your reservation. You don’t want to arrive and find out you can’t hook up to water or maneuver your RV into the camp spot.

Camping is a great way to connect with nature and enjoy the peace and serenity you will find. Make your camping trip the best it can be by preparing early and getting the best campsite!

Camping Tips For Families

August2

Being prepared for your camping trip will make all the difference to everyone’s enjoyment levels.  Create a comprehensive list that you can reuse each year and you will never get caught out without the right equipment.
Invest in comfortable mattresses.  If you are in a tent you will appreciate one of the excellent camping mattresses that are now on the market.  Many of these our self inflating and pack down easily so will not take up too much space in your car.
Pack a first aid kit.  Look online for a list of ideal things to pack in a first aid kit.  Some of these lists are very extensive so you might choose to minimize on a few items.  This will save you a mad dash to find supplies if someone is not feeling well or is hurt.
Pack lots of outdoor games the whole family can get involved in.  Favourites could include a Frisbee, football, swing ball and kite flying.  Bring some creative activities.  You might collect some nature items and create a collage to help remember your holiday.  Children love treasure hunts.  Join up with some other families on the campsite and set a treasure hunt out for them.
If you are planning on having a barbeque please check with the campsite owner first.  Whilst the disposable barbeques appear convenient they are not always the easiest to light.  There are a number of good portable and reusable ones on the market that are very good value and much better for the environment.  Make sure you do not scorch the grass by placing some stones underneath the barbeque.
Don’t forget your torch.  Children love playing with these so invest in fun ones for them.  For yourself consider a head torches.  They work well as they keep your hands free for doing other things such as food preparation.
Be prepared for all weather.  Camping can still be fun in the cold and wet as long as you have the right equipment.  Wet weather gear, umbrellas and boots will keep the rain at bay.  Even the warmest days can turn into cold nights so pack the gloves and your woolly hats.  You may well find yourself sitting outside the tent waiting for the children to fall asleep so you will glad of these extra layers.
Pack your earplugs.  If you are a light sleeper this will help you get the sleep you need.  You will be in reasonably close vicinity to your neighbours with only canvas or a thin wall between you.  It is not much fun listening to a neighbour talking or coughing for most of the night.
Research your destination and remember to book early.  You will be surprised how busy some campsites get and there is nothing worse than turning up to a full campsite.  Most sites have comprehensive websites so you are able to get a real feel for the facilities they have to offer.  For personal recommendations, search for ‘camping forums’ in a search engine.  Here you will find lots of campsite reviews and recommendations and you could start your own thread and list your needs for your holiday.  You will be surprised at how active some of these sites are and with many helpful the members.
Children love camping, and will hold these memories dear to their heart as they grow up.  However things can go wrong and you might find they never want to camp again.  So make sure you get it right when you take your family camping this year and they will be keen to keep going for years to come.  Here we have some top tips that will help your camping trip run smoothly.

Planning Your Family Camping Holiday In France

July21

The global credit crunch is already having an impact on the spending habits of holiday makers and more people are considering camping in France for their holidays than in recent years. Camping holidays are cheaper than hotels, apartments and foreign rentals, but it’s also an ideal way to see the country and enjoying the wonder of nature right on your doorstep of your tent or mobile home.. Not only that but, if it’s been several years since your last camping trip, then you may well be amazed by the upgrades in comfort and facilities that have been made to France’s camping sites.

If you have indeed been out of the camping loop for a while, then you may need some advice when it comes to the planning and preparation of your camping in France break.

Here are a few tips to help you plan:

Where to Go?

Once you’ve decided that camping in France is for you, the question is which region to visit. Each of the areas have their unique charms, but best value, you can’t beat a camping holiday in Brittany – and doubly so for those with families. It has a great mix being close to Britain (cutting down on the trauma of driving long distances with impatient children), a good selection of family friendly local attractions and, crucially, some truly fantastic campsites. Brittany’s best include Camping Ty Nadan, Camping la Pointe St Gilles and Camping Château de Ormes. All of these are highly rated, with plenty to keep families occupied in delightfully scenic, spacious environments.

When to Go?

Whether you plan to follow my advice and head off to a Brittany campsite, or whether another area of France calls you, the advice of when to plan your trip remains broadly the same. The majority of campsites are open between May and September (some earlier, and some later). July and August are ideal for better weather, more onsite entertainment in the heat of summer and far more visitor attractions will be open. If you want a quieter retreat, then why not travel in May or June when the weather is still warm and the campsites and attractions are much quieter.

What to Bring?

What to bring very much depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. The majority of campsites in Brittany have fully equipped accommodation including barbeques which means you will save money as you are not buying any extra equipment that you normally need on other camping holidays..

That said there are some things you should definitely take. Firstly, sleeping materials such as bed linen, towels, pillows and blankets are provided but check with your holiday provider to make sure it is included . Then of course basic toiletries will be very welcome and as bare essentials you’ll want a toothbrush, soap, towels, and washcloths. Cooking equipment is all supplied and includes the basics such as cutlery, cookware and plates but it also includes specific items like bottle openers and can openers. Don’t forget your teabags, coffee and sugar!

Then there’s the bits and pieces you need to stay healthy – a first aid kit could prove very handy, but also remember to pack sun cream and an insect repellent to prevent illness before it strikes! Finally a handful of items that are very easy to forget but incredibly useful: waste bags, a torch and matches.

Don’t worry about this too much if you’re staying at one of the many excellent campsites in Brittany. An onsite shop won’t be too far away, allowing you to stock up on essentials and the little luxuries as you need them.

And with that you’re all set for your camping holiday in Brittany. You know where to go, when to go and what to bring – what are you waiting for?

Stephen Lane is the Marketing Director of Canvas Holidays, one of the leading European camping and mobile home holiday companies in the UK. With over 40 years of experience, Canvas offer tailor made trips to Brittany campsites as well holidays to the rest of France and other countries such as Spain, Italy, Holland, Germany and other destinations across 9 European countries.

French Camping Holidays – Six Steps to Planning the Perfect Family Holiday

July15

You are advised to plan French camping holidays well in advance. The rise in popularity among British families for French camping holidays means booking early is essential to avoid disappointed. Substantial numbers of British families are choosing French camping holidays for their summer break.

Days consist of lying by the pool watching your children play with newly acquired friends. When evening approaches the aroma of barbecues drifts around the campsite, all this complemented with inexpensive quality French wine. Enjoying your summer break is easy, here are six steps to make planning French camping holidays easy also.

1. When is the best time to travel?

If your children are below school age or you’re traveling as a group of friends, then months May, June and September are cheapest. Additional benefits of those months include quieter roads, resorts and campsites. When booking French camping holidays in peak periods, book early to avoid disappointed as popular campsites become full very quickly.

2. Selecting your Campsite

From Normandy, Brittany and the Loire in the north to the Cote d’Azur and Languedoc in the south, it is possible to camp in most regions of France . Choose a region that matches your interests, maybe an inland retreat, beach holiday or culture and sightseeing. For campsites, checkout the facilities available, the official rating and the number of pitches match your preferences. The local amenities will give you a good idea whether a campsites region can satisfy your interests.

3. Choosing your Accommodation

French camping holidays offer a variety of accommodation. Tents, mobile home and chalet style cottages are available depending on your preference and budget. If your children are teenagers, go for the larger accommodation where possible it’s well worth while having a little extra space. At most campsites bed linen can be hired, otherwise don’t forget to take your own.

4. Getting there by Sea, Air or Rail

The English channel makes getting to France a little more awkward. Most holidaymakers drive to their campsite taking either the cross channel ferry or the Euro-star through the Channel Tunnel. The ferry is slower but general cheaper and for convenience the Channel Tunnel takes only 35 minutes. Fly-drive or Motorail are alternatively options to driving all the way from the UK . In peak season book your channel crossing, trains and flights early or you may end up with more expensive traveling arrangements or no traveling arrangements at all.

5. Stopping En Route

The Cote d’Azur and Languedoc regions of France may take 12 hours to drive non-stop from the UK . In that case many holidaymakers on French camping holidays choose to stop En Route. There are hotels chains across France including Novotel, Ibis, Kyriad and Campanile who offer good quality rooms at reasonable prices.

6. Visit Disneyland Paris and the way home

The route of many journeys across France is via Paris . For a little extra expense consider a two day stay at Disneyland Paris. It is possible to stay at the Disneyland hotels, but money can be saved by staying at one of the many hotels very close to Disneyland . And finally, leave enough time to visit CitiEurope in Calais , it’s a vast enclosed shopping center where French produce at bargain duty free prices can be purchased.

Discover the charm, enjoyment and relaxation of French camping holidays for yourself next year. Plan and book early and you will not be disappointed.

What To Expect On Campsites In France

July9

A Camping Holiday is, for the French, probably the most popular type of family holiday to take; relaxing, with plenty of activities, and set in the countryside. Families choose a campsite for its location, the facilities, and its atmosphere. Brochures set out as much factual information as possible so that you can Camping Atlantique at Beg Meil, for instance, offers a very wide range of activities from football, to archery, water polo, etc., as well as water sports that adults can join in as well.  Camping Palmyre Loisir at Royan has an ‘Ecole de Cirque’ where children of all ages can learn some of the tricks of the circus (juggling, balancing, etc) and the children put on a weekly show for their parents. This is hugely popular. These are just two examples. Camping Chateaux des Ormes at Dol de Bretagne and Camping Ty-Nadan at Arzano offer more specific activities, such as go-carting, paint balling, tree and zip wire adventures and there is a charge to participate. If your children want a daily adventure then these two campsites are both highly rated by our regular clients.

Evening Entertainment. Each campsite has a bar where you can meet up in the evenings with other holidaymakers. In addition during July and August, this is usually the area where evening entertainments are held. This can range from family discos, to an evening with a magician, live music, karaoke, etc., but always aimed at giving enjoyment to families because in July & August it is mainly families that are on the campsites.

Cooked Meals Service.  All of our campsites provide this service. Two or three ‘Plats du Jour’ (daily specials) will be prepared so that if you do not want to cook, you can buy dishes to take back to your mobile home to enjoy. You can buy just a bowl of chips (very handy if you are having a salad and want something hot with it) or you can buy a fish or meat dish plus vegetables. It is a very useful service and makes providing an evening meal very easy.

Campsite Shops. These are usually very good value and will save you the need to go off resort to a shop each day. As you can imagine they stock up with fresh croissants, pain au chocolats, and baguettes for the morning so that you can have a very continental breakfast to start the day. They also stock all the day to day items that you will need, as well as fresh vegetables, fruit and cheese. They will also stock a good selection of wine and beer, and they will usually have several bottles of wine at a very reasonable price.

Emplacements. This is the area that you are given for your stay on the campsite. If you are staying in a mobile home you will be able to park your car beside your mobile home and there will be room for your outside table and chairs so that you can have most of your meals outside, if that is what you would like to do. Eating outside is one of the pleasures that makes this type of holiday so appealing.

Launderettes. Each campsite normally has a small launderette with at least one washing machine and a tumble dryer and a charge is made for their use. An iron and an ironing board is usually provided as well. Hopefully you will not be doing much washing, but the little that does need to be done is made easier if there is a launderette on site.

Access in the Evenings. For safety and noise reasons most campsites operate a barrier that comes down around 22.30 in the evening and is not normally raised until about 08:00 the next morning. This means that if you are arriving late on a campsite, or departing early in the morning when the barrier is likely to be down, you will need to park your car on a designated area by the campsite gate and walk with your overnight things from your car to your mobile home and likewise to do the reverse if you are leaving before the barrier goes up in the morning.
