Good Planning For A Great Family Camping Experience

August29

Camping means different things to different people. For some, it is going out with a camper and practically all of the comforts of home. For others, it is backpacking into the mountains and sleeping in the open elements with nothing over your head but the stars. It could even mean foraging for your food (hopefully you’ll come across a good trout stream!). My definition of camping falls on the more comfortable side of the two, loving the camping experience, but needing to have some basic comforts also. This article will give you a few tips that you can use no matter what kind of camping you enjoy!

Starting With A Plan

A great camping trip starts with a great plan! Planning out your camping trip will help you be prepared and build excitement way before time to head to the hills (or the beach!). Make sure that you include the whole family and let everyone have a part in deciding what you’ll need to bring to make this a great adventure and a pleasurable experience. Camping with your family is a great way to build a closer relationship between parents and kids. Good quality time spent without the distraction of the TV, computer and video games can make for some great memories and shared experiences that will be remembered for years to come. You’ll experience quality time for everyone involved.

Deciding Where To Camp

One of the first things you will want to decide is where you are going to camp. Do you prefer “roughing it”? This means no electrical hookups, no camp host or camp store, and bathroom facilities means “the woods”! For most campers, I would recommend an established campground. State Parks provide some of the best campgrounds available and they are usually very well maintained and reasonably priced. You will have the security of knowing that they have done their best to keep the area maintained and as safe as possible. In choosing the campground, you will also want to look into what kind of activities, if any, they offer or are offered in the nearby vicinity. I would recommend you pick up a good campground directory such as Woodalls campground guide and directory to help you decide where to camp.

Selecting Your Gear

Once you’ve found the perfect location, you will then want to begin to plan what to take with you. Will you be camping in a tent, “pop-up” type trailer or possibly an RV? Shop around; see what is offered and what will work the best for you and your family. Be sure you include everyone in this decision. It makes for some great excitement and will have everyone looking forward to the first time you try out that new tent or camper. Also, if everyone has a part in this decision it limits the number of complaints that you may hear about later on! Do you plan on using a sleeping bag? Remember that an adult size sleeping bag, does not necessarily mean one size fits all! If you will be tent camping, another thing to consider is having a mattresses or foam padding under the sleeping bags. Foam padding usually folds up to a compact size and is much easier on the back than sleeping right on the floor of the tent. It just might be worth the extra trouble to pack it along to insure a good nights sleep! I would also recommend a large battery operated lamp for your tent. Another great idea is for everyone to have their own flashlight, in case any get separated from other members of the family during trips to and from the bathroom facilities (or woods!).

Use A Camping Checklist

A camping check list makes every trip much more enjoyable in several ways. First, the whole family gets involved together in creating your camping check list. Making out your check list long before the trip is kind of like starting your vacation early. It builds up the excitement and anticipation when everyone begins to think of items they want and need to bring. Second, check lists help you organize and pack your camping gear. The check list reminds you what to bring, and where to pack it. Third, check lists help you remember to take everything with you. No one likes to get to camp and find out they forgot some important item (even though you will probably will forget something!). Fourth, check lists help you remember what NOT to bring next time. This is important, because each trip is a little different, so make notes on your check list about what camping gear you used, what you didn’t and what you wish you had taken. This lets you plan to make your next camping trip even better.

Planning Out Your Meals

Food is another important factor. You need to consider what you will be taking for food and what you will need in way of storage for it, such as an ice chest, etc. Most camping areas have a cooking area. Do you want to bring your own grill or use the outside cookers which may mean waiting your turn? Don’t forget to take the can opener if the food that you are taking with you will require one. Don’t forget cooking and eating utensils. Remember, you don’t have to wash paper plates and plastic cups! If you decide to use these type items be sure you dispose of them properly and don’t leave your trash for someone else to pick up! Meals that can be cooked at home ahead of time, and travel well in a cooler, will save a lot of time especially on the first night of your trip. Precooked meats will last longer in the cooler than raw meats, especially if you use block ice in your cooler. It will last much longer than cubes. If you’re an ice cream lover, nothing is better than home made ice cream on a camping trip. Depending on where you’ll be camping, you can bring along your electric ice cream maker or your “old fashioned” hand crank ice cream churn. Of course you’ll want to make sure you have access to a local store that has ice! If you’re in an area inhabited by bears, special precautions must be taken with both your food and garbage. if you’re in an established campground, place your food in the special bear-proof receptacles at night. If you leave food in your vehicle, a hungry bear will find a way to get inside it, and he doesn’t care what kind of damage he does to your vehicle! It’s always a good idea to talk with the local Park Ranger about wildlife in your campground area.

What About Your Drinking Water?

The water around organized campgrounds is probably safe. Their water is usually privately treated or it is supplied by a near by city treatment plant. The water from lakes, springs, rivers and streams however, is untreated and can carry a lot of bacteria, viruses, and other things that can cause illness. Water that runs rapidly over gravel, rocks, and plant life appears clean and limpid, but this is no guarantee it is safe for you. Your best bet to ensure you and your family’s safety is to always treat any water obtained from unfamiliar sources, such as all the sources mentioned above. It is not that hard to do and it takes so little time. There are many different ways to treat water, but boiling water is probably the most common method used. It is best to boil it for more than 10 minutes at a steady boil. If you are camping in a wilderness type area where treated water is not available, then be sure to bring your own. Don’t forget to add that to your checklist!

Clothing Considerations

Bring extra clothing along. If the weather is different than you had planned on, then you’ll be glad you did. Don’t forget a first aid kit for any unfortunate minor injuries. Bring activities that can be enjoyed inside the tent as well as those for outside, such as books, games, etc., in case inclement weather makes you want to be inside. Plan for everything that could go wrong, and then be grateful and glad when all goes well. And finally, one last important item…..a camera to capture those memories!

Make it a family adventure that all will enjoy and possibly want to repeat another time. Above all, have a fun-filled family camping experience!

Camping ? An Economical and Eco-Friendly Alternative for Your Next Family Vacation

August24

With the skyrocketing prices of gas and food, many families simply cannot afford to hop on a plane and head to an exotic locale for their yearly family vacation anymore. However, don’t let the economic downturn ruin your plans to have a family vacation this year. One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to have a family vacation on a budget is to go camping.

There are a variety of campgrounds across the US so you don’t have to go very far to enjoy a unique camping adventure. Because you won’t have to travel a long way, you will save on gas and thus help to preserve our environment. For an eco-friendly vacation that is equally friendly on your pocket book, go camping for your next family vacation. Whether you want to head to a campground in an RV, stay in a cabin, or pitch a tent, there are numerous activities you and your family can enjoy in the wild.

Activities Families Can Enjoy on a Camping Trip

When you go camping there are activities appropriate for family members of all ages. Some common activities associated with camping include: golfing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, biking, river rafting, hiking, caving, and bathing in hot springs. Many campgrounds also have activities especially for children. Whether you want to relax and read a book by the waterside or enjoy adventurous activities and get some exercise, you’ll find plenty of activities to keep you entertained on a camping trip. Also, don’t forget the classic camping activities such as telling stories around the campfire and making s’mores.

Accommodation Options

If you’d like to enjoy the conveniences you have back at home on your camping trip, consider renting a cabin or traveling in an RV. Approximately seven million Americans now own RVs, making them a popular vacation option. Camping out in an RV or staying in a cabin is certainly a more comfortable option but if you are on a tight budget, consider pitching a tent. All you need to go tent camping are tents, sleeping bags, and other basic supplies.

If you have never been tent camping and you have young children, consider trying it out for a night in your own backyard first to get everyone used to it.

Food on a Camping Trip

When you go camping, one of the areas you save the most money in is food. You typically won’t spend any more money than you would if you stayed at home. If you have an RV you can prepare all of your food in its kitchenette but if you are traveling by car, you may need to take a camping stove and other supplies with you, depending on what facilities are available at your campground. It’s a good idea to take all of the food you think you’ll need so you don’t have to spend your vacation at the super market. Plus there may not be much available near your campground.

In conclusion, it’s possible to have a fun-filled family vacation without breaking the bank. There’s no need to travel halfway across the world to give your family a vacation to remember when you can take a local camping trip and have a blast. Go to a campground close to natural attractions so you can enjoy all that nature has to offer while saving money on food, activities, and accommodations.

Picking The Best Campground That You Will Love

August19

Are you interested in going on a camping adventure? If you are, you will need to find a public campground to visit.  Public campgrounds are also commonly referred to as campground parks. If this is your first time going on a camping adventure, you may be wondering exactly how you can go about finding a campground park to camp at.  If you are, you will want to continue reading on.

When it comes to finding a campground park to camp at, you will find that you, literally, have an unlimited number of options to choose from.  One of those options involves using your local telephone book. Your local telephone book should have the name and contact information of local campground parks.  If you are looking to camp locally, this is a nice and easy way for to find and familiarize yourself with local campground parks.

In addition to using your local phone book, you may also want to ask those that you know for recommendations.  Since camping is a popular activity in the United States, there is a good chance that many of your friends or family members have gone camping before.  If they have, you may want to get information on the campground park that they visited, as well as a general overview of their camping adventure, like if they enjoyed it or not.

If you are looking for a campground that is local or even one that is a distance away from your home, you may want to think about using the internet.  The internet is a great way to find and familiarize yourself with campground parks.  One of the many ways that you can use the internet to your advantage is by using online resources like online phone books or online business directories.  These online resources allow you to find a particular business, like a campground park, by searching in a specific area.  Often times, you will get the name and the contact information of a campground park by using online business directories or online phone books.

In addition to using online business directories or online phone books to find a campground park to camp at, you can also use standard internet searches. When performing a standard internet search, you may want to think about searching with phrases like “campground parks,” or just “campgrounds.”  If you know where you would like to camp, city and state wise, you may want to think about incorporating that information into your standard internet search. Your standard internet search will likely connect you to the online websites of campground parks.

Speaking of the online websites of campground parks, these websites are a great way for you to familiarize yourself with the park or parks in question.  Many campground parks have detailed information on their online websites, like park maps, as well as pictures.  You may also find the cost of renting a campsite on their website.  It is also likely that you will come across a detailed list on onsite activities that you and your camping party may be able to participate in.

You can also find a campground park to camp at by keeping your eyes open at all times.  Some of the greatest campgrounds are discovered purely by accident. Whenever you are out driving, you may want to always be on the lookout for campground parks. Many of these parks are advertised in plain site.  You may want to think about stopping and requesting information or using the internet to research the park in question when you get home.

As outlined above, there are a number of different ways that you can go about finding a campground park to camp at.  As a reminder though, you will want to try and do more than just find a campground park.  You will want to make sure that you take the time to find and choose the one that is best for you and your camping party.

How To Choose The Best Campground

August14

Are you interested in taking a camping trip? Whether you are interested in going camping alone, with your family, with your romantic partner, or with a group of your friends, you will need to find a campground to camp at. While many individuals just choose to go camping at the nearest campground, you may want to think about not doing the same.  In the United States and probably even close to your home, you should have a number of different campgrounds to choose from.  So, why not just take the time to make sure that you choose the best one for you and your needs.

If you are interested in taking the time to find the “perfect,” campground you may be wondering exactly how you can go about doing so.  In all honesty, it will depend on your own wants and needs, as well as the wants and needs of the rest of your camping party.  Although not everyone wants to get the same thing out of their camping trips, there are a number of important factors that you may want to think about taking into consideration, when looking for a campground to camp at.

One of the many things that you will want to take into consideration, when looking for a campground to camp at, is the cost of doing so. In the United States, you will find that most campgrounds require the payment of an admission fee or a camping fee and occasionally even both. The cost of the admission fee or camping fee will all depend on the campground in question. For instance, many smaller campgrounds charge smaller fees. Also, you will likely find larger fees for campgrounds that have more onsite activities.

Speaking of onsite activities, activities are something else that you may want to think about taking into consideration, when choosing a campground to camp at.  When it comes to the onsite activities of a campground, you may want to take a look at the scenery.  If a campground has on onsite lake or pond then there is a good chance that swimming, boating, and fishing are activities that you may be able to enjoy. Campgrounds are also often home to hiking trails, biking trails, playgrounds for children, and much more.

How reservations are taken is another factor that you may want to think about taking into consideration, when choosing a campground to camp at. For instance, there are some campgrounds in the United States that randomly assign you a camping spot.  On the other hand, there are campgrounds that allow you to handpick your camping spot out of all available locations.  Many campers prefer choosing their own camping spots, as it tends to give them some freedom over their camping trip and how much fun they have.  If you are picky about where you would like to camp, you may want to find a campground that allows you to choose your own camping spot.

Although it is nice to know what you should look for in a campground, it is also important that you know how to find them.  If you are interested in camping locally, you may already know of a number of local campgrounds.  If not, you should be able to use your local phone book or ask those that you know for recommendations.  As for campgrounds that are located a ways away from your home, you may want to think about using the internet.  A large number of popular campground parks have online websites and a standard internet search should them you find those websites, which could be used to learn more about the campground in question.

As a reminder, you may want to think about taking the time to research a number of different campground parks. It is important that you remember that no two campground parks are the same.  To ensure that your next camping adventure is as memorable as possible, you may want to make sure that your intended destination is perfect for you and the rest of your camping party.

Five-Star Campgrounds: Do they really live up their ratings?

August9

Five-Star Campgrounds
Do they really live up their ratings?
Mardie Caldwell
MAMMOTH LAKES CAMPGROUND, CALIFORNIA-As an experienced travel writer, maintaining a credible reputation means not gushing over a hotel, airline, restaurant, or other establishment that simply doesn’t meet the grade. This honesty policy also extends to campgrounds. For those of us who enjoy sleeping under the stars or, in my family’s case, in our motor home with sky lights, the search for good quality campgrounds can be an adventure in itself.
That being said, recently I packed up our daughter and her little friend and headed to the beautiful area of Mammoth Lakes in Southern California. We planned to stop at any allegedly “great campground,” listed in the independent camping directory.
Let it be said that Mammoth in itself is wonderful. The campground listing we selected included a whole list of enticing “amenities.” However, it soon became apparent to us that these claims were erroneous and the amenities just plain didn’t exist.

Predictably, it’s unlikely I’ll be back. I paid our week-long bill and shared with the customer service staff our disappointments and the negative comments from other campers we interviewed during our stay.
It would have been morally wrong not to let the staff know of our disappointments, and I did finally let them know I was there to write an article about their campground.
There are not many campgrounds to select from in the Mammoth area, and for the entire week, we were stuck with problems. However, the trip wasn’t a total loss, as we did have fun once we journeyed out to see the sites.
When we first arrived at the campground, I noticed there were a number of people waiting to get into the office, and none of the staff members knew much of what was going on. They were friendly enough, but they obviously lacked quality training.
Later, we took our evening walk, checking out the other rigs and talking to other campers. During our stroll, we began to notice that there were several things wrong with the grounds.
Small gum wrappers and bottle caps littered most of the camp sites. At the far end of the camping ground, a discarded car seat sat on the side of a vacant lot. In the two laundry rooms, the majority of the dryers had hand-written signs that said, “Not working.”
A large, glass, light globe was discarded on the ground. We could see that it had fallen from a parking lot light, and was not only an eye-sore, but more importantly, a hazard to children and animals. Most of the outdoor lamps were in need of repairs in one way or another.
When asked if the site had a golf cart to help pick up around the campground, the staff said the battery was dead and they were ordering a replacement. This was certainly a likely story, as it looked as if the campground had been in need of attention for many weeks, if not months.
The only area that was fairly clean was the tent area, which was not as full as we would have expected for the season.
During our stay, we also noticed that the trash dumpster was never emptied, and we were there for almost a week.
When the girls came back from swimming, they mentioned how there was sand at the bottom of the pool and how dirty the indoor pool area was. The girls had also stopped at the restroom, and they mentioned to me that there was something gross on the bathroom floor. They proceeded to describe what they had found.
I couldn’t take it any longer. I went to speak with the management and complained about the used sanitary pads that were over flowing from the trash can, onto the floor. This was in the women’s’ rest room, in plain view of the little girls. This was not at all acceptable.
The staff finally agreed to send in the “cleaning people”. What a joke! Two women showed up, picked up only the large “matter” that was on the floor, fluffed around the sinks for 20 minutes and then sat on their bottoms for another 30 minutes with their cleaning supplies, laughing and talking, looking through fingerprint-smudged glass doors for their ride. They couldn’t have cared less, and if they were getting paid more than minimum wage, I’d say they were way over-paid. The floors were still filthy after they left. Most people have cleaner floors underneath their cars in their garages at home.
I moseyed around the campground and spoke to some of the campers. They all had similar complains. The consensus? Since the campground was the only one with full RV hook-ups, people were staying, in spite of the filth.
When I spoke to the management, I confessed I was writing an article on four and five-star campgrounds, and that they were at the bottom of the “bad list.” I told them I hated to write the article with this information, but the problems were so bad and intolerable in almost every area that I just couldn’t lie to the public and my publication about them.
I shared with the acting manager that most of the time when I see problems, there is a reason. The reasons vary, and can include a divorce, change of ownership, absentee owner, death, health issues, or any combination of these in the management. She admitted that the daughter of the owner had taken the business over from her elderly parents (change of ownership) and that the daughter was also very pregnant (health issues). Although this did not excuse the condition of the campground, it explained a lot.
So what does this mean to the visiting camper? Here are some tips:

What to look for in a 4 or 5 star campground:
1. Do they have clean facilities? Check the rest rooms, recreational area, and laundry room. Take a look before you even register.
2. Is the campground easy to locate and are the grounds lighted at night?
3. Do they pick up the trash daily, including the debris and dead, wild animals from the campground?
4. Do you see maintenance staff around the grounds?
5. Is the campground store well stocked, with clean floors?
6. Are the food products well within the expiration date on perishable products and over-the-counter meds?
7. Are the personnel clean, friendly, and professional looking?
8. Are there clean parking areas and neat spaces with no signs of the last campers’ cigarette butts?
9. Is the pool and spa area clean and filled with sparkling clean water? Is the furniture and equipment well maintained? Are there safely rules posted?
10. Are trash receptacles found easily, and are they emptied often?
11. Look for dog walks that are clean and include a complimentary scoop and plastic bags, and have signs posted, indicating where to keep pets.

Will I visit this facility again? I certainly plan to return to Mammoth, but we most likely will not stay at this campground.

The next time we are in the Mammoth area, I will do a drive through, and check to see if anything has changed in the months since our trip. You can be sure I will keep you updated.

We all want to enjoy our vacations, but remember to keep your eyes open. Make sure the kids are safe and not exposed to any dangers.

I find the best campgrounds are well-known membership campgrounds, such as KOA & Good Sam’s. These are usually the most reliable.

Check to be sure your campground directory is current. Some campgrounds may be denied a continued listing when they have problems, like the one featured in this article.

From my family to yours, we wish you happy and safe camping!

Budget Backyard Family Vacations

August4

When travel and lodging are cost prohibitive, you can still have a vacation right at home. Yes, in your own backyard. Many of us live within reasonable distance to museums, campgrounds, historic sites, and beautiful state parks. You might be surprised at what you find in your own local area.

Do some research in your area to find free or low cost activities and sites to visit. Schedule something for each day of the week, even if it’s just a park visit for a picnic. Some areas have local public beaches. Plan an outing at a local public beach. Visit historical sites. Many of these are free, educational, and fun for parents and kids.

You can even plan activities at home just as if you were at an exotic vacation spot. Have a different theme for each day. For example:

1. Beach day – sun tanning, volley ball, make some fancy icy drinks to sip on in the sun, have a picnic.

2. Camp day – stay in a tent or sleeping bags under the stars, build a little fire if allowed in your area, roast marshmallows, make smores, sing campfire songs.

3. Have a backyard fair – create booths with games like ring toss or balloon popping to win little prizes.

4. Colonial day – dress, and live in another era!. This is great fun. I thought of this one purely by accident when the electricity went out one day. The kids expressed how “neat’ it was to live like they did in the “old days.” No lighting except candles and lanterns, no T.V. or radio, no video games or computer. Sounds boring, but believe it or not, they had fun coming up with ideas to keep occupied. A good teaching tool too! Shhhhhhhh….. don’t tell the kids.

5. Cultural Day – Live, celebrate, dress, and eat as you learn about different cultures. Some examples might include an Irish, Native American, or Spanish Day. Another great learning experience. Try to include some ethnic games to make it even more fun and interesting.

These “theme days” at home will take some imagination and a little work, but will be loads of fun for everyone. Half the fun will be in the creation, so let everyone pitch in. With a little imagination and creativity you can have a wonderful vacation right in your own backyard. You may even have more fun than actually being in another part of the world!

RV Camping In Dalhart – Exciting Family Vacation Guaranteed

July30

Dalhart, Texas. A small town near the famous XIT Ranch, it acts as both the site of the annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion, and serves as a stopping point for people on their way to the Rocky Mountains for some fun in the summer, as well as people on cross-country driving trips. RV camping there is easy as pie if you follow some common sense rules of RVing.

When planning your trip through or to Dalhart, decide how long you will be staying. If you are only going to be passing through one night, setting up a good parking space at the Dalhart Wal-mart may be the easiest (and cheapest) solution. But if that’s not your style, or you are bringing the family down for some vacation time, setting up in one of the 3 RV sites available in Dalhart is usually a simple matter. Look for RV spots in El Highway 54, the Corral, or Sunset Village campgrounds. If you know when you will be in town, reservations are always a good idea, especially if you are driving into town for the XIT Rodeo.

XIT Rodeo and Reunion

The XIT Rodeo and Reunion is probably the single biggest scheduled event in the town. It is named after the 3,000,000 acre XIT Ranch which was awarded to the men who built the state capitol building. The XIT Rodeo is a distinctly and uniquely Texan event. The Rodeo lasts for two weeks, and includes everything you would expect at a rodeo. Some of the top riders in the nation come to compete in this event, and you will be blown away by what these top riders can do. Event schedules are available every year before the rodeo, and are accessible vie the World Wide Web.

And for those who love history, the XIT museum has several exhibits that explore the history of the XIT Ranch. There are period rooms including a wedding chapel, and exhibits that examine the firearms and branding equipment used by the ranch hands. All this is definitely worth a visit.

So if you are at a loss for your next RV camping destination, consider going to Dalhart. The small town atmosphere is relaxing, the scenery is beautiful, and the Rodeo is an event that must be seen to be believed. You and your family will have a great time RV camping in Dalhart!

5 Tips for a Great Family Vacation

July25

Family vacations, whether they’re spent at a campground, a hotel, in the mountains or on a beach, are a great way to spend quality time away from home relaxing with your loved ones. If you’ll be spending your much-needed vacation with your immediate family or even with extended family for a larger, intergenerational event, having a creative, organized plan will make your trip a memorable success.

Use the following five helpful tips to have a vacation that the whole family will talk about for years to come.

Make a List, Check it Thrice

While over packing can have its own host of problems, not packing enough or forgetting some of the essentials can be much worse. Consider making a list and following it closely to be your best defense against forgetting something important. With all the hustle and bustle that often comes along with preparing for a vacation, without that list it’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll forget something.

You can certainly have more than one list to make things even easier, one for items to pack, one for things to buy, and one for the actual vacation complete with itineraries and things that are an absolute must to remember like medications.

Stay Close to Your Regular Schedule

Children, especially younger ones, can be greatly affected by changes in their routine. Whether it’s their sleeping schedules or eating habits, they’ll feel more secure, and also be more likely to behave, if the regularity of home still applies on the road. If possible, try to keep bedtime relatively close to the normal time for youngsters, within reason, of course, after all it is vacation!

Creatively Capture Memories

While nearly everyone brings a camera along on their vacation (check your list), there are several other ways of capturing your special memories. The prices of camcorders have dropped greatly as of late as technology continues to reinvent itself, but if they’re not an option, consider renting one or borrowing from a friend.

It’s also fun to give the kids their own disposable cameras so they can capture favorite parts of their vacation. Voice activated tape recorders make great gadgets to take along on a family vacation to record candid moments that can be saved for generations to come.

Another keepsake to treasure from your time together would be artwork done by the kids. Give each child their own set of ‘art supplies’ so that they can convey their thoughts or memories of the vacation. They could draw something they saw at the beach, or a certain ride in an amusement park, or a picture of a new friend they met on the trip. Whatever it may be, imagine what fun it will be years later get them out and reminisce about your times together.

Play the Waiting Game

Unfortunately when traveling using just about any mode of transportation, chances are you’ll be doing some waiting and will be delayed at some point for one reason or another. By staying positive and having a sense of humor you’ll realize that getting there really is half the fun!

For each child, or vacationer, prepare a personalized vacation survival kit to pass the time. These can include snacks, books, comic books, coloring books and crayons, hand-held video games, and pens and notebooks as travel journals for the older kids.

Music to Soothe the Savage Beast(s)

The chances that everyone in the family enjoys the same music are usually very slim. If they don’t already have one, consider buying the kids their own portable CD players with headphones.
